TANIT Project Launch: A New Era for Sustainable Tourism in Tunisia

On September 27, 2024, Leaders International proudly launched the TANIT project, an initiative aimed at fostering sustainable tourism in Tunisia. We were honored to be welcomed by our key partner, the Ministry of Tourism. This significant event brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, including representatives from the Presidency of Government, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Cultural Affairs, Agriculture, Youth, and Sports, as well as our key donor, the European Union, and implementation partner, Museum Lab.

The TANIT project is strategically designed to empower Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to advocate for sustainable and alternative tourism in Tunisia. By enhancing the capacities of these organizations, TANIT positions them as influential advocates for a diversified and responsible tourism model that supports local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) while creating new job opportunities.

Our initiative will concentrate on six key regions: Jendouba, Kef, Siliana, Béja, Zaghouan, and Dahar. By prioritizing these areas, we aim to ensure that local voices are central to our efforts, fostering a tourism landscape that reflects the needs and aspirations of the communities.

The event showcased the diverse expertise of our committee members, highlighting the importance of cross-sector collaboration in promoting sustainable tourism. We emphasized the critical role of CSOs in advocating for sustainable tourism initiatives and supporting local communities, while members of the Steering Committee (COPIL) reviewed the criteria for selecting 35 beneficiary associations, with announcements forthcoming.

The TANIT project marks a significant step forward in Tunisia’s commitment to promoting environmentally responsible tourism that honors local contexts.

By empowering CSOs and focusing on community-driven initiatives, TANIT aims to create a sustainable tourism framework that benefits both local residents and visitors alike.
