IDEAL Project: Inclusive Democratic Engagement and Language Technologies in Europe

The IDEAL project is committed to enhancing  political participation and democratic engagement across diverse cultural and linguistic diversity in the European Union. Through the development of advanced language technologies and methodologies, IDEAL aims to create an inclusive, multilingual platform for citizen dialogue that overcomes linguistic and cultural obstacles, enabling historically marginalized groups to take part in democratic processes. The project will offer innovative tools such as AI-driven machine translation, text simplification, and mobile applications to facilitate multilingual engagement.

The primary goals of IDEAL are to create tools and methods for effective multilingual deliberation, establish a European public space for inclusive citizen participation, and promote the involvement of vulnerable groups in important European democratic issues. The project will address key areas such as migration, health, employment, social justice, and the rule of law, with detailed analysis and field testing planned in countries like Greece, Belgium, Austria, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, Spain, Cyprus, and France.

Leaders International, as a key partner in the IDEAL project, incorporates co-created solutions, user requirement assessments, and advanced technological tools such as AI-powered multilingual aids to support inclusive participation of Arabic-speaking minorities and refugees and their engagement in local democratic participation. Efforts include providing safe spaces for multilingual dialogue, facilitating access to civic education resources in native languages, and empowering refugees to influence the political agenda.

By equipping citizens with language technologies and encouraging inclusive dialogue, IDEAL aims to contribute to a more representative and fair European democracy, strengthen social cohesion, and encourage the active participation of all EU citizens in political affairs.
