Media & Gaming

The innovation ecosystem is expecting social media technologies to filter and fact-check news due to the spread of fake content during the crisis. This will also open new opportunities for social media listening tools, which are highly used to measure users’ sentiment and engagement during the pandemic.

The gaming industry is also on the rise and will advance more during and after the pandemic due to its success in providing shared experiences and connecting people in quarantine together; primarily through multiplayer games.

According to MiddleEastMedia in 2019, around 70% of people in KSA play video games,  60% in UAE, 40% in Qatar and Tunisia, 30% in Lebanon, and 20% in Jordan and Egypt. The number of hours spent on video games per week in 2018 was 17, 13, 12, 11, 9, 8 in Lebanon,  Qatar and Tunisia, Jordan, KSA, UAE, and Egypt consecutively.

The most trending digital products in media are:

  • Live streaming features
  • Podcasts
  • Online multiplayer games
  • Make-up filters – especially for video calls and meetings
